Yesterday was a day of bad news for the country. While in the morning, the state of Punjab again witnessed a terror attack near Gurdaspur, Punjab, the rescue operation of which lasted around 12 hours, evening brought another bad news, where we lost a great visionary and a humble personality, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. kalam_prez Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist and administrator who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, studied physics at the St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, and aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chennai. Before his term as President, he worked as an aerospace engineer with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Kalam is popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He also played a pivotal role in the nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran, Rajasthan in 1998. He was not only admired in India but around the globe. Sao Tome and Principle Island had also issued a stamp in 2009 in his honour.

It is a great loss to the nation and certainly a wound which will take some time to heal. I pay my tribute to the ‘Missile Man of India’ through few lines penned by me.

#RIPKalam.
